Thalapathy Vijay Unveils New Political Party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam
Chennai, India – Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay today launched his new political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking a significant step into Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. The party’s flag, featuring the “Vaagai” flower, a symbol of victory from the Sangam period, was unveiled at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai.
In a heartfelt speech, Vijay emphasized his commitment to equality and justice for all. “We will strive for equal opportunities and equal rights for all, regardless of caste, religion, gender, or place of birth,” he declared. The party’s anthem was also released, featuring a powerful message of unity and progress.
Vijay’s political entry has been highly anticipated, given his massive following and the success of his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. The fan club, now registered as the All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI), has over ten lakh members and has shown considerable political influence, particularly in the 2021 local body elections.
With the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections in sight, Vijay is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Tamil Nadu’s political future. His decision to retire from films after the release of the highly anticipated “GOAT” on September 5 further signals his dedication to his political career.
Vijay’s foray into politics follows in the footsteps of iconic Tamil film stars like MG Ramachandran (MGR) and Dr J Jayalalithaa, who successfully transitioned from cinema to become Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu. However, other actors, such as Sivaji Ganesan, Vijayakanth, and Kamal Haasan, have had less success in their political ventures. Rajinikanth, another legendary figure in Tamil cinema, announced his political entry but later withdrew due to health concerns.
